GENEVIEVE SCHAFFER
FLINTSTONE-Genevieve Y. Schaffer, of Flintstone, died Monday, May 10, 1999, in Memorial Hospital.
Born in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Grace (Custer) Yonker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Weber Schaffer; and a son, Kurt Manfred Schaffer.
Mrs. Schaffer attended Flintstone United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army-Marines prior to World War II, and she was retired from the Department of Interior as an attorney. She was a graduate of Frostburg State University, the George Washington University, University of Maryland (College Park), and the American University Law School. Mrs. Schaffer was a member of Zonta International, a life long member of the American Legion, a member of the Bar Association, the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization, and was an officer of the Flintstone Episcopal Cemetery.
She is survived by one daughter, Adair "Kippy" Schaffer, Athens, Ohio; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday, May 14, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be held on Saturday, May 15, 1999, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio.
Members of the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization will conduct services on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home under the direction of Mary Ann Eckard.
Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Schaffer to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502, or to the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization, 534 A St., LaVale, MD 21502.
Members of the Allegany County Bar Association will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
