Gary was the only son of Patricia Ann Eukert and Charley R Bartlow.
Shortly after graduating from Davis High School with the class of 1965, Gary enlisted in the Marines 30 June 1965, at a recruiting office in San Francisco. Gary arrived it the MCRD at San Diego for his boot training from 7 July 1965 and graduated with Platoon, 2nd Battalion. Later he was instructed in in jungle warfare, before going to Vietnam.
Upon arriving in Vietnam Gary was assigned to Bravo Company, 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine Division. Later he was assigned as a combat engineer with Mike Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division while the battalion was participating in Operation Hasting. Mike Company was in the process of clearing a landing zone in the vicinity of the Song Ngan Valley and 9 kilometers west northwest of Cam Lo when the Marines were attacked by NVA hostile forces using mortar and rifle fire. Gary died as a result of severe multiple fragmentation wounds to both legs from hostile mortar fire.

Survived by his mother, Patricia Ann Uekert and a sister Ann Bartlow of 1318 Theo Avenue, Modesto, California and his father, Charley R Bartlow of 2955 North Criptal, Fresno, California.
