The White Mountain Independent,Show Low, AZ ~ 01/03/2003. Terry Brent Austin, 57, died Dec. 29, 2002 in Show Low. Terry was born in Snowflake at the old Maternity Hospital. He was raised in Vernon and Eagar where he attended school and graduated from Round Valley High School in 1963. He attended Eastern Arizona College for a year before being called to serve in the London England Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission he attended Arizona State University, and graduated in 1971. He married Karen Hatch of Mesa in 1970 in the Mesa Temple. Terry taught at Taylor Elementary School for four years before going into school administration. He was the principal of Snowflake Intermediate School until he retired two years ago. Terry loved being in the mountains, hunting, fishing and cutting wood. He especially enjoyed being with his family who will miss him very much.Terry is survived by his wife Karen of Snowflake; one son, Travis Austin of Provo, Utah; three daughters, Tracy and Yuma Brown of Thatcher, Heidi and Vic Chapman of Queen Creek, and Rinda and Cody Hancock of Taylor; his parents, LD and Georgia Austin of Eagar; four brothers, Boyd and Joy Austin of Snowflake, Danny and Judy Austin of Eagar, Gene and Francis Austin of Scottsdale and Gary and Edith Austin of Thatcher; three sisters, Nona and LaVerl Ashcroft of Eagar, Glenna and Bob Bigelow of Eagar, Kim Austin of North Dakota; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Rachel and her husband Jody Beecroft in Nov. 2001.Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 2 at the Snowflake Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a viewing one hour prior. Burial will be in the Snowflake Cemetery. Owens Mortuary of Snowflake handled the arrangements.
