SPRINGFIELD - Shade M. Parker 88, of Springfield, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Care in Springfield.

Shade was born January 18, 1931, near Jackson, Mississippi, the son of James Burton and Elvia Woodsen Parker.

He married Evelyn L. Ray, June 16, 1946, at Grace Lutheran Church in Springfield, Illinois. Proceeding him in death were infant twin daughters; parents; sisters, Agnes East, Marie Bankston, and Pauline Walker; and brothers, Gus C. Parker, James Clinton Parker, and John W. Parker.

Shade was a resident of Springfield most of his life. Shade retired after 35 years with Eisner (Jewel Food Stores) as Market Manager of the Meat Department. He was a member of Grace Lutheran church for over 60 years serving as deacon, usher and served on the church council. Shade served in the United States Army during World War II, with the 184th Medical Dispensary Aviation Army Air Forces at Warrington Air Base in England during the years 1942-1946.

Shade was a member of: Springfield Lodge 4 AF&AM, Springfield Scottish Rite, Past Royal Patron of Springfield Court 8 Order of Amaranth, life member American Legion Post 32 and Sangamon Voiture 40&8. He also belonged to several social clubs.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn L. Parker; sisters, Flora Mae Goynes of Baton Rouge, LA, Retta (husband Eugene) Bellgraph of Zachary, LA; brothers, Carlton of Zachary, LA, and Ames Phillip of Summit MS; along with numerous nieces, nephews, several cousins and special friends.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, where visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday September 30, 2009. Springfield Lodge 4 AF&AM will conduct Masonic Rites at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Shade will lie in state at Grace Lutheran Church, 714 S. 7th St., Springfield, from 9:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2009, until time of funeral services there at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Pastor Juli Lejman-Guy will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery with the United States Army and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County providing military honors.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Grace Lutheran Church, Shriners Hospital for Children, or the Springfield Court 8 Order of Amaranth.
