Former Douglas Storeowner Dies
Edwin Henry Puffert, 74, Omak, died Sunday March 9, 1975 in an Omak hospital.
He was born on September 15, 1900, at Boone, Iowa and came to Washington with his family in the early part of the century. He went to school in Spokane, then when his family moved to Douglas, they operated the Douglas Cash Store, and he helped them for a good many years. His father, William Puffert, built the Douglas Lutheran Church in 1915.
When the Douglas store was sold to Warner and Fleda Friel, Puffert remained to assist them for a while. He was active in church and community affairs and very welcome when he returned for special occasions, as he had a very friendly personality.
In 1937, Puffert was married to Marian Lillwitz at Spokane. In 1940 they moved to Omak and operated a grocery store until about two years ago. He was active in Omak's community affairs, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Kiwanis Club, the Omak Chamber of Commerce and Senior Citizens, as well as a member of the board of trustees for the Community Action Council.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Joanne) Herriman, Omak, and Mrs. Jess (Dorothy) Jameson, Grand Coulee; a son, Cyril L. Puffert, North Highlands, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Otto F. Puffert and Harold Puffert both of Seattle; and two sisters, Alma Frink and Lois Dunning, both of Seattle.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 13 at 2 pm at the Precht-Harrison Chapel in Omak with the Rev. E. H. Zimmerman officiating. Interment was in the Okanogan Valley Memorial Garden Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Extension Fund, the Heart Fund or the Cancer Fund.
