Gospel preacher. The following was submitted by his daughter, Diane Simmons:

James Edward Arrington was born on July 9, 1928 in Atwood, TN. He passed away on January 21, 2004 at the age of 75 after battling Parkinson for 10 years. He attended school in Atwood and Trezevant, Tennessee and Benton Kentucky School of Preaching. On January 24, 1948 he married Rachel Williams and they were the parents to four children; Diane, Kathy, Mike and Mark. He was not raised a Christian but on July 26, 1954 at the age of 26 he was baptized into Christ by Neal Penny at Trezevant, TN. Bro. Penny was a major influence in him becoming a gospel preacher and a few years later he started preaching while still holding down a public job. After 20 years he then started full time located work at Pleasant View Church of Christ in Gibson County. He preached at several small congregations throughout West Tennessee as well as Kentucky. At some of the very small churches he led the singing, had prayer, taught classes, had the Lord Supper and preached, all the same day and he loved every minute of it. Throughout the years he held numerous gospel meetings and did mission work in Trinidad and Tobago. He continued to preach until his health failed. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, three children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral service was conducted in Bradford, Tennessee on Friday, January 23rd by Jerry Mercer and Scott Bloodworth. Interment was in Pleasant View Church of Christ cemetery.

1 Corinthians 15:58: "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord."

A celebration of life service for James Edward Arrington, age 75, will be Friday, January 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Hunt Funeral Home with Jerry Mercer, Dewey McCoy, and Scott Bloodworth officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery. Mr. Arrington a retired church of Christ minister died January 21, 2004 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, TN after a long illness. He had served for several churches of Christ for the past 40 years. He was a current member of Main Street church of Christ in Milan TN. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rachel Williams Arrington; a son Mike and wife Rene of Bradford TN; two daughters Kathy McCoy and husband Dewey of Bartlett, TN and Diane Simmons of Jackson, TN; 5 grandchildren Tyler and Jessie Arrington of Bradford, TN; Anna Simmons of Jackson, TN, Denise McCoy and Jennifer M. Walters of Cordova TN; a sister Joyce Hicks and husband Ben of Trezevant, TN and brother Ray Arrington and wife Helen of Milan, TN. A son, Mark Edward Arrington, preceded him in death. Pallbearers will be Walter Hazlewood, Harry Jetton, Carey Connell, Vernon Dotson, Stan Penny, and Larry Cash. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Taylor, Harold Scott, Rufus Lowery, Delbert Parrish, Blair Isenberg, Larry Connell, Mickey Brasher, Sam Webb, and John David Presson. Lynn O'Bryant will conduct congregational singing. The family will be receiving friends today, January 22, 2004, from 5:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Hunt Funeral Home in Bradford, TN.
