John Oroville Sparks, 93, of Omak, Wash. passed away at Mid-Valley Hospital on Monday, Nov. 20, 2006. He was born Aug. 19, 1913 in Malo, Wash. to Robert and Ella Sparks.
He attended Malo Elementary School and graduated from Riverside High School in 1931 as Salutatorian of his class. He then went to one year of college at Cheney Normal. He married Eva (Byrd) Sparks Nov. 25, 1938 at First Baptist Church in Okanogan, Wash. They had two children, John O. Sparks, Jr. of Bellevue, Wash. and Brenda M. Fraley of Omak, Wash.
He worked in the gold mines in Republic, Wash. for five years, then went to work at Biles-Coleman/Crown Zellerbach until he retired in 1975. John was a member of the First Baptist Church in Okanogan. He loved to travel and spend time with his family and grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Eva Sparks, of Omak, Wash.; one son, John Jr. and wife, Sherrie Sparks, of Bellevue, Wash.; one daughter, Brenda Fraley, of Omak, Wash.; grandchildren, Jim Fraley of Omak, Wash.; Joy Fraley and husband, Eric Davis, of Omak, Wash., Tiffany and husband, Aaron Sparks-Keeney, of Bellevue, Wash., and Allison Sparks, of Bellevue, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren, Reilly and Alyssa Davis, of Omak, Wash., and Whitney and Lyndsey, of Tonasket, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service was held for John O. Sparks at Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006 at 11 a.m.
Precht-Harrison-Nearents Funeral Service directors were in charge of arrangements.
