On Thursday morning Mr. Charles
Tuttle had a sudden and severe shock of
paralysis. Drs. Palmer and Jones were
summoned to his bedside, and everything
done that human agency could desire.
He lingered until Monday evening, and
then calmly and peacefully passed away.
His son William arrived from Kansas on
Saturday evening, and his daughter, Mrs.
Dr. Jenks, from Dakota, on Tuesday. Mr.
Tuttle was born in Rutland, Jefferson
county, N. Y., in 1811; came to Clinton,
Wis., April 9, 1837, where he has since
continued to reside. Mr. Tuttle, Mil-
ton S. Warner, Wm. S. Murray and Den-
nis Mills were the first white men to step
on Clinton soil. For over forty-five years
Mr. Tuttle has been intimately and ac-
tively connected in all the affairs of
church and state, in all of which he en-
deared himself to his neighbors and
friends by his many excellent qualities
of both head and heart. He leaves a
wife, three sons and a daughter, and a
host of relatives and friends to mourn
his loss.
