He received his training at Camp Pickett, Virginia and then was assigned to Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In April 1943 he left Louisiana for Arizona then in October to Pennsylvania.
He went overseas to Hawaiian Islands in March 1944. Participating in the Invasion of Guam, the Mariannas and also the Invasion of Leyte in the Phillipines. He landed in Leshima on March 26th.
He was "Killed In Action" on Ie Shima during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He had served the Army for two years and five months at the time of his death. He had the honor of having a Hospital in Japan named in his memory.
