Edmund "Edie" Asa Barker was born on April 15, 1874, to Emory Crawford Barker and his wife Leah Humphreys Barker. Edie met Bettie Wimberley, who was 12 years younger than he, when they both lived with their families in the Miller Creek area near Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas. They were married on September 6, 1903, when Edie was 29 and Bettie was 17. Their marriage, however, quickly ended in divorce. Bettie married Nathan Cooper between 1904 and 1906. She married James Hardwick in 1910. Edie, however, did not marry again until he was approximately 47 years old. Instead, he returned to his parents' household after his divorce from Bettie and farmed with his father until his father's death in 1914. Eddie and his mother Leah then moved into the household of John and Sedonia Martin, his sister and brother-in-law, in Buda, Hays County, Texas. In approximately 1922 Edie married Nannie Mae Meek who was 38 years old. Their son Edmund Asa Barker, Jr., was born on August 18, 1927, in Bexar County, Texas. Edie died in Dallas in 1972. Both Edie and Nannie buried in the Miller Creek Cemetery near Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas, where Edie's parents were buried.
