Obituary from the "Eustis Lake Region News," Eustis, FL, January 9, 2003:

"Izetta Copp Koonce, 88, longtime resident of Eustis, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22. She was born in Three Rivers, Mich. to parents, William Thomas Copp and Marguerite Downey. Mrs. Koonce was married to the late 'O.B,' Koonce.
"She was active in many Eustis-area civic and social functions, including the Eustis Women's Club and the [Ocklawaha Chapter] Daughters of the American Reovlution. Mrs. Koonce often played organ for local churches, frequently directed bingo for area nursing homes, and was a gifted artist. Many of her works are still shown throughout the area.
"Casa Mia on Lake Gracie, the Koonce home for many years, was one of the first homes to be built in that area. Today, Casa Mia, beautifully restored by Dennis and Cheryl Kirst, is a state landmark, and is listed in the National Registry of Historic Houses.
"A prodigious writer, Izetta Koonce kept up correspondence with friends and acquaintances throughout the world. She often sent along personal poems and short stories about Florida wildlife and her many experiences.
"Not one to stay at home for long, Izetta and her husband, 'O.B.' set out early in their marriage on a motorcycle tour of the nation. Izetta, riding in a sidecar fitted to their Harley Davidson Super Glide, kept a running diary of the cities they visited and the names of new friends they met along the way. Those reminiscences, with many others, are additional legacies of this spirited, ever cordial, Lake County socialite.
"Izetta loved the color red, and she wore it well. She will always be remembered for her cheerful Christmas red blazers and shoes and jaunty crimson caps.
"Generous with her time, kind and ever cheerful, Izetta Koonce was in many ways a lot like Santa Claus.
"Survivors: brother; Kenneth Copp, 82, Poultney, Vt; nephew; Kenneth Copp, Jr. of Kentucky.
"Harden/Pauli Funeral Home, Mt. Dora, in charge of arrangements."
