Alice Kennedy
A shadow of sorrow spread over Nodaway Monday evening when the news spread of the untimely death of one of our beloved citizens, Mrs. Charles Kennedy.
Mrs. Kennedy was stricken with influenza about two weeks ago and was doing fine until about a week ago when she took a relapse and complications set in. A nurse was secured and everything that loving hands could do was done, but to no avail and at 6:30 p.m. Monday she answered the call of her Master.
Alice Lyon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Lyon was born near Nodaway, Iowa, October 27, 1873 and passed away at her home in Nodaway, December 31, 1923 at the age of 50 years, 2 months, and 4 days. She was united in marriage to Charles N,. Kennedy August 1, 1895 and to this union was born one child, Mildred Kennedy Wright of Ames, Iowa. She was a faithful member of the Methodist Church all her life. She was an untiring worker in all departments, having taught the same Sunday School class for twenty years. Her life was one of sacrifice for the cause of righteousness as she saw it in the up building of the church, her home, and her community. Perhaps there was no one more widely known than Mrs. Kennedy for she was a friend to all and especially in the time of need, always doing her share and more no matter the call or the time.
she was a good wife and fond mother, ever ministering to the needs of the family and community and words can never express the thousand of ways she will be missed. But God knoweth best and her influence will ever live in the hearts and lives of those who knew her, beckoning them to live to meet her for truly, "She had done what she could." She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Charles N. Kennedy, one daughter, Mrs. Howard Wright of Ames, her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Lyon of Los Angeles, California, two brothers, M. A. Lyon of Mobile, Alabama, and Robert Lyon of Los Angeles, California. also a devoted aunt Katherine Pearson, who made her home with her for twenty-eight years and two grandchildren, Ernest and Alice Wright of Ames, Iowa, besides a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Paul Hicks, pastor of the M. E. Church, assisted by Rev. Silas Overholser, pastor the Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Nodaway Cemetery.
