The person who sent you the information on this gentleman is mistaken and has confused him with another Henry Ballenger. I have sent you some corrections which should remove the erroneous data. Her Henry Ballenger left New Garden Friends Meeting (NC)in 1793 (and later wound up at Lost Creek Meeting, TN. He is not the Henry Ballenger who m. Rebecca Hunt and is buried at Spiceland.

This Henry Ballenger was a son of John and Catherine (Stewart) Ballenger. He married Rebecca Hunt ca 1805 when she was disowned for marrying outside of the meeting. In 1832, Henry and Rebecca transferred their membership to Duck Creek Friends Meeting in Henry Co., IN. (Duck Creek meeting no longer exists, but its burying ground is now a part of the Greensboro (IN) Cemetery. The following year Henry and Rebecca were set off from Duck Creek as original members at Spiceland. Henry's birth and death dates are recorded at Spiceland Friends Meeting. He died in 1865 and was originally interred at Elm Grove cemetery, but was exhumed and reinterred in 1872 following the death of his wife. They are both buried in the old Spiceland Friends cemetery. The following article appeared in the New Castle (IN) Courier, Friday, Dec. 6, 1872:
"Henry Ballenger, who died near eight years ago and was interred in Elm Grove Cemetery, was disinterred by C. W. Gillespie, undertaker, on Wednesday last, and removed to Spiceland Cemetery and reinterred by the side of his wife, who died three weeks ago at the residence of her son, N. M. Ballenger, of this place. She died at the advanced aged of ninety-three. Had she lived thirty-nine days longer, she would have arrived at the age of her husband at the time of his death, he being nearly eight years the older."

You will note that the article states Henry was eight years older than his wife, which will match the birth date I've sent you for him.

I'm not asking for a transfer of Henry's memorial to me, but if you are concerned about being "caught in the middle" since I'm asserting a major change to your data, please feel free to pass him on to me and I'll gladly defend my information against all comers.

Best wishes,
Mary Louise
