Mrs. Thelma Helene Poulson Barton, 91, died Monday morning (September 14, 2009) at Pierce County Nursing Home after an extended illness.
She was born in Columbus, GA to the late Andrew Walter Poulson and Annie Lee Lowe Poulson, but she was raised in Brunswick before moving to Waycross in 1937. She was a member of Brooks United Methodist Church where she served with the Busy Bees and United Methodist Women. She was also a past member and honorary member of the Satilla Regional Medical Center Auxillary "Pink Ladies".
She is the wife of the late Reynolds Leon "R. L." Barton. She is also preceded in death by one brother, John W. Poulson.
Survivors include one son, Andrew Clayton "Drew" Barton (wife Peggy) of Blackshear; special friend, Barbara Barton of Waycross; three granddaughters, Kristie Lee (husband Carey) of Waycross, Helene Westmoreland (Brent) of Dupont, and Rhea Minor (husband Brad) of Buford; nine great grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday (September 16, 2009) at Palmetto Cemetery in Brunswick. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.
