Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Montgomery, Visitation will be Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, from 9 am to 11 am.
Mrs. Brown was born, Jan. 16, 1916 in Jacksonville to O. B. and Donia Holcomb. She married Horace K. Brown on June 11, 1954. Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Lon Morris College in Jacksonville and Stephen F Austin University in Nacogdoches.
She had taught in the Salem CSD, Holcomb CSD, Craft CSD, LaMarque ISD, Kilgore ISD, Spring Branch ISD, and Brazosport ISD. She retired in 1981 from Brazosport ISD as a full time teacher and returned to teach on part-time basis for several more years. She served as a volunteer for the Brazosport ISD until her move to Granbury over two years ago.
She had been involved in teaching in the public school systems over 67 years. Mrs. Brown loved to teach children, and loved to travel and learn about the places she visited. Her husband, Horace K. Brown, her parents, two brothers, Oscar and Cleo Holcomb, three sisters, Mildred Shull, Billy Strickland, and Helen Knapp precede her in death. Survivors are daughter, Donia Lee Schultz, of Jacksonville; son and daughter-in-law, Chesley and Maulinda Brown of Granbury; and son, Richard Brown, of Guam; grandchildren, Miranda Casey Blocker, of Freeport, Travis Kirtland Brown, of Granbury, Kristy Gail and Brad Fiebig, of College Station, and Kacy Ray and Justin Warren of Houston, great-grandchildren, C.J. Blocker and Keithan Lee Blocker of Freeport, sister, Bobbie Smith of Jacksonville, numerous nieces and nephews along with countless family and friends. (Brazosport Facts, September 1, 2006, page 2)
