Carl and Opal took in Leland Rapp (brother to Carl) and his 2 boys Howard and Irvin Rapp after their mother Sylvia passed away in 1921. Irvin was 6 months old and Howard was just over a year. The cause of the fire was lightening strike to the garage. Sylvia tried to rescue kittens. Leland lived with Carl and Opal till sometime after 1935. Irvin and Howard stayed with Carl and Opal until they were old enough to leave home.
