Minister Joette Thomas Oxner, 54, passed away August 23, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, OH.

A life long resident of Toledo, she earned her bachelors and masters degrees from University of Toledo in the social sciences.

Joette worked for the child support division of Lucas County. The major focus in her life was her goal to preach and teach.

She was a member of First Church of God and sang in their choir.

She was ordained into the ministry in June 23, 2007 which culminated her desire to bring the word of God to everyone.

Joette was known for her strong and vibrant personality and the energy that she brought to everything that she did both personally and professionally. She loved gospel music and sang faithfully for many years with the Toledo Interfaith Mass Choir.

Joette loved to shop and buy the beautiful clothes that were her trademark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Arleather Mae Farmer Thomas.

She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Joseph Thomas and JoJuan Thomas, both of Toledo, OH, aunt, Edith Strange; special cousin, Yvette Perry; Godmother, Joan Marney; Godfather, Costello Horton; God sister, Cassandra Barnhill, devoted caregiver Mary Maddox; her First Church of God church family and her Toledo Interfaith Mass Choir family and other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be Friday 5-7 p.m. followed by wake service 7-9 p.m. Dale-Riggs Funeral Home Chapel. Their will be a family hour Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral services at 11:00 a.m., First Church of God. Pastor Robert Culp offficiant. Interment Willow Cemetery.
