VALLEY FALLS --- Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church in Topeka for Leah Jane Etzel, 61, formerly of Valley Falls and Topeka, who died Nov. 20, 1999, at her home in Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was born June 12, 1938, in Valley Falls, to Harold E. and Grace Ferrell Scarlett, and graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1956. She lived in Scottsdale since 1989.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Scottsdale.

She married Daniel Joseph Etzel on May 23, 1964, in Topeka. He survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Marianne Etzel and Leanne Cox, both in Topeka, and Janeen Riley, Glendale, Ariz.; six brothers, Marlin Scarlett, Sabetha, Harlin Scarlett and Gary Scarlett, both in Topeka, Harold DeVere Scarlett, Chandler, Ariz., Everett Scarlett, North Charleston, S.C., and John Scarlett, Wellsville; six sisters, Arlene Gier, Neola Risinger and Leota Bolz, all in Valley Falls, Marilyn Kesinger, Ozawkie, Anita Grahem, Meriden, and Helen Powell, Rapid City, S.D.; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Etzel was cremated.

Inurnment will be at noon Saturday at Valley Falls Cemetery.
