He was educated in New York City Public Schools. His father owned a cigar store. He dropped out of high school to join the Army. He found what he believed to be the grave of his brother, his only sibling, Danny, in Germany, an event he said deeply traumatized him.

He was known as being an actor, author and humanitarian. He invented CockyBoo the Clown, the Stringless Yo-Yo and the Magic Mouse Children's Television Show. He had been involved in theater, comedy, and drama since he was 12 years old. He worked in radio and television starting in 1947 and made appearances on the Mike Douglas Show, Howdy Doody Show. He appeared in Young Guns 2, Young Riders TV, Iron Eagle III and Shadow Hunter. He helped create America's and the Worlds first underground counterculture newspaper of the 1960's, THE EAST VILLAGE OTHER, edited the AMERICAN, a weekly newspaper for Americans living in London. He was the author of 4 books, released 7 albums or CD's. He was the executive director of SCAT-TV, the only public access television in the State of Utah, and also served as executive director of Claremont's own CCTV Channel 8. He was a veteran of WWII.

In 1955, Matusow wrote a book, False Witness, in which he discloses that he was an FBI agent and was paid to lie about members of the American Communist Party.

Unable to find work in the US, he moved to England. In 1966, he established the London Film Makers Cooperative and worked with the composer, Anna Lockwood. In 1972, he produced a festival of contemporary music called the International Carnival of Experimental Sound.

He returned to the United States in 1973, eventually settling in Tucson, Arizona. Working with the Magic Mouse Theatre, he developed a clown persona named Cockyboo for stage and television. Matusow began Magic Mouse as a radio show in Tucson, Arizona, and slowly it grew into a traveling theater troupe, and in 1979, became the TV program MAGIC MOUSE MAGAZINE. This led to the creation of THE BABYSITTER'S MAGIC MOUSE STORYBOOK, a self-published book done in collaboration with Hilda Terry creator of the popular newspaper cartoon "Teena".

Later, he converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Glenwood, Utah to start the state's first public access television program. For a time in the 1980s (after his conversion to Mormonism), he was known as "Job Matusow" and lived with his wife Emily in Warwick, Massachusetts. He made chimes out of melted ammunition and bomb shells during this time and also became involved in collecting clothes for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Matusow made a name for himself as an actor, a writer, an artist and an activist. His alter ego is Cockyboo the clown. He started Utah's first public access television station in 1996. It's based out of Glenwood and housed in Matusow's old school bus.

At the end of The Stringless Yo-Yo, Cockyboo appears with a group of children singing a song. In the audience sits the Dalai Lama, who Matusow just happened to meet while working as an activist to free Tibet.

In 2001, he moved to Claremont, New Hampshire to run the town's public access TV studio. He died in New Hampshire from complications from a car accident.

Members of his family include his wife; Irene (Gibson) Matusow, Claremont, NH whom he married on November 17, 2001, 2 sons; George Matusow and Charles Matusow both of Massachusetts, a daughter; Anne Matusow of Nevada, 1 grandson, several cousins, step children and a multitude of close friends to numerous to mention.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother; Danny Matusow who was killed in action during WWII, and his former wife; Emily Matusow.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ascutney, VT with the Rev. Harold Altmayer, High Priest of the State Council, officiating.

-- He had a devilish side: he wrote a book on how to sabotage computer systems. But he also tried to help people, like impoverished Indians to whom he persuaded Hell's Angels to deliver food.

-- Matusow saw the Hindenburg crash as a child.

-- While in the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary, his cell was next to Wilhelm Reich's cell when Reich died.

-- He was married twelve times to eleven women. One wedding was in a helicopter over New York City; another was in a piano factory.

Matusow had various works in progress when he died. One was a book devoted to one of his wives, Emily, titled "A Tapestry of Love." He was more than willing to share the book with his friends. He had always wanted to complete the story ...
