John grew up in Michigan. He graduated from Cornell University. He worked in text book sales for many years . For the last 40 years of his career, he was with Macmillan Co. in New York City as advertising manager. He retired in 1949. In 1953, he and his wife and moved from Mamaroneck, NY to Needham, MA to be nearer to family. The couple summered for many years in Glover, VT.
