"William Houston Abernathy, son of John S. and Nancy Ann Abernathy, was born in Scotland County, Missouri, January 30, 1871, and passed away at the hospital in Larned, Kans. July 5, 1945, at the age of 74 years, 5 mo. and 5 days.

"On December 25, 1895, he was united in marriage to Cora Minderhout at Alma, Nebr. To this union eight children were born. One son Leland passed away at the age of two years.

"Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife, five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Applegate, of Wilsonville, Mrs. Lola Ervin of Norcatur, Mrs. Anna Kintigh of Dellvale, Kansas, Mrs. Faye Skiles of Escalon, Calif., and Mrs. Phyllis Albin also of Escalon, two sons, Charley and Ralph of Escalon. Two sisters, Mrs. Mae Coe of Alma, Nebr., and Mrs. Clara Delaney of Omaha, Nebr., one brother Charley Abernathy of Orleans, Nebr., fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many other relative and a host of friends. Two of his grandsons and one son-in-law are serving the armed forces.

"When he was a young man, Mr. Abernathy moved with his parents to a farm near Alma, Nebr. After his marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy lived in Harlan County, Nebr. for about ten years. In 1905 they moved to Norton County southwest of Devizes where they made their home until 1940 when they retired from the farm and moved to Norcatur.

"Mr. Abernathy was a member of the M. E. Church at Norcatur and liked to be in the services as much as possible. He was always spoken of by his fellowmen with the greatest of respect. He was a great lover of the home and was always happiest when his family was around him. During the last ten years his health had been failing. In this time his wife patiently watched over and comforted him. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him best."
