Avis K. Chisam, formerly of Huntsville, 90, of McKinney, Texas, passed away Thursday at Baybrooke Village Nursing Facility.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Emerson Lyle officiating. Burial will follow in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Blake Chisam and Stewart Chisam, spouses of granddaughters, Kasie Hardy (Charles Hardy) and Susan Jones (Steve Jones) along with nephews, Niles Prestige, Mark Prestige and Mark Miller.
Born in Huntsville, Mrs. Chisam was a resident of Huntsville most of her life. She was a member of Jackson Way Baptist Church, where her mother and father were charter members. She faithfully served her church in many capacities, including service on numerous committees and as a Library worker. She worked for many years for Gensco at Dallas Mill. In addition to being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was an artist and creative woman who enjoyed painting, especially birds, and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow "Pud" Chisam; her son, Sam Chisam; her parents, Sam and Locia Knowles; and sister Birdie Clanton.
Survivors include her children, Martha and husband Maurice Black of Plano, Texas, Mike Chisam and wife Donna of Herndon, Va.; daughter-in-law, Lera Chisam of Fayetteville, Ga.; grandchildren, Claude S. "Bud" Chisam of San Francisco, Beth and husband David Fundak of Portland, Ore., Blake Chisam and wife Jasmine of Arlington, Va., Susan and husband Steve Jones of Dallas, Stewart Chisam and wife Amy of Cumming, Ga., and Kasie and husband Charles Hardy of Nashville; great-grandchildren, Juliette Chisam and Jorj Chisam of Arlington, Ben Chisam and Meredith Chisam of Cumming, Charlie Hardy of Nashville, Texas, and Sam Fundak of Portland; and sisters, Pauline Lehman and Althea P. Culps.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Center of Richardson, Texas, and the staff of Baybrooke Village Nursing Facility for their compassion and special care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson Way Baptist Church Library.
