Sarah Elizabeth Milne was born near Dekalb, Ill. December 8, 1855, the daughter of George and Sarah Milne. In 1863 she lost her only sister of diphtheria. in the fall of 1871, she, with her parents came to Kansas to make a new home. Like all other pioneers, she endured the hardships of life in a new country.

On September 24, 1879, she was married to John Betz of Newton, three children were born, Elizabeth, Sarah and George.

In 1893 her husband died leaving her with three small children and to them she devoted her life.

On December 8, 1939, she celebrated her 84th birthday with a few old time friends and neighbors and all remarked on her interest in every thing about her. She was a devoted mother, loyal friend and a good neighbor, leaving to her children and friends a host of happy memories.
