Private Benjamin Franklin Guess was a Confederate Soldier in Phillips Georgia Legion Infantry Battalion Company "O". Ben died of disease during the Civil War at Emory and Henry College and is buried at Emory and Henry Cemetery Grave Marker 133 in the Great State of Virginia. Ben was born in Marietta, Cobb County in the Great State of Georgia to Henry and Jerusha Guess. Ben was twenty-five years of age at his death and had no surviving wife or children. There is a monument in the cemetery with Ben's initials and last name and grave number which indicates he was from Louisiana. This is in error. Ben is from Georgia and must have been amongst many fellow soldiers from that state that were all laid to rest together. I am including a favorite quote related to this soldier: "Bravery doesn't mean you aren't scared. It means you go anyway." That in my opinion is true Courage. God bless you Uncle and Rest in Peace.
