CWO4 Charles Jeptha Holman enlisted in the US Navy in September 1918 and saw service in World War I. In the 1920's he served as a Machinist Mate aboard the USS Finch, a Gun Boat on the Yangtze River Patrol in China. During WWII he served on the carrier USS Lexington CV-2 (The Lady Lex). He fought in the Battle of the Coral Sea aboard the Lady Lex and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He also saw service during the Korean War. He was the son of William C. and Bonnie Flanagan Holman, and the grandson of John and Lilly Holman of Hurricane, Ark. Jep was also the brother of Clem Holman of Wynnewood, OK. Jep was a very kind, generous, and upstanding person. He was very patriotic. Jep loved his country. His memory will always be with us.
