Charles W. Klein, 84, of 119 Edds Avenue, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Pekin Hospital.

Born December 17, 1924 in Pekin to Norman and Fannie (Perkins) Klein, he married Norma Thomas on April 21, 1951 in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Michael Klein of Pekin; two daughters, Karen Chance of Pekin and Barbara (Guy) Mussey of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two brothers, Harold (June) Klein of Fulton, Kentucky and Ronald Klein of Pensacola, Florida and one sister, Evelyn Vest of Pekin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving aboard a minesweeper, the USS Token 165, in the South Pacific. A member of the Naval Minewarfare Association, he enjoyed keeping in touch with his shipmates by e-mail. Charles was a member of William Schaefer American Legion Post 44 and the Illinois Sheriffs' Association.

Charles worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 1980 as a trouble shooter on the assembly line.

He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and a Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed fishing.

Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites provided by the United States Navy and Glasford American Legion Post #35.
