Michael Courneya was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 1980 his death resulted in the many complications of this disease. He died March 1, 1986 at the University of Washington Medical Hospital.
He was a carpenter by trade and also enjoyed farming.

He is survived by his wife Catherine (Van Alstine) Courneya, sons: Michael, David and Scott Courneya.
His mother Marybelle E. Courneya, Kent, Washington, brothers: James, John, Charles and Daniel Courneya; sisters: Charlotte, Clarice, Frances (Courneya) Breen and Areilia Courneya and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father John J. Courneya and brother Joseph Courneya.
