"MRS. ELMIRA SHELTON DUER. / After a brief illness Mrs. Elmira Shelton Duer, wife of the late Rufus A. Duer, died at her apartment, Tudor Hall, yesterday. Mrs. Duer was born in Middlesex county, Virginia, August 19, 1848. She was the daughter of the late Col. Patrick Henry Fitzhugh and Mary Christian and a niece of the late Judge Joseph Christian, of Richmond. She is survived by four sons and one daughter - Fitzhugh Lee, of Philadelphia; Philip Henry, of New York; Clarence S., J. Williamson and Mrs. Henry Lay Duer, of Baltimore. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters - George S. and William C. Fitzhugh, Mrs. Mollie E. Mitchell, of Virginia, and Mrs. A.B. Davies, of Baltimore. The family will leave on Sunday for Urbana [sic], Va., where the body will be buried in the old family burying ground at Hewic [sic]."
