Confederate Legend. He is remembered for his resemblance to and portrayal of General Robert E. Lee. The longtime owner of Bob Moates Sports Shop in Chesterfield and in Charlotte Court House, he was a staunch defender of the Second Amendment. An electrician and a master gunsmith, he was a veteran of the US Navy and the Virginia National Guard. A life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, he founded General Robert E. Lee Camp #1589, SCV, and was at his demise Commander of Charlotte County Grays Camp #1964, SCV. Bob was known to many for his numerous appearances on screen and in person with his horse Traveller as General Lee. He died of cancer.
