Annie was born in 1878 to William and Ellen Arnold on the family's 640 acre ranch on the East Gallatin River , 7 miles NW of Bozeman, Montana. She was in the middle of ten children, 7 girls and 3 boys.
The ranch was a self sufficient producing it's own grain, meat, dairy products, and vegetables. Clothing was also made at home. Annie and her sisters all wore white aprons over their one good school dress. These aprons all had to be pressed with a special iron, for fluting.
William and Ellen valued the importance of education and Anne along with her siblings attended the Nelson Elementary School. This was a one room school house half way to Bozeman. This was probably a 2 - 3 mile distance from the house each way. Quite a distance to walk each day especially in the snow and cold weather of Montana winters.
Anne would later continue her education and go on to college there in Bozeman. After graduation from the Business School of Montana Agricultural College, Anne went to work as a bookkeeper at Pease's Jewelry Store in Bozeman. She was one of the first women of her generation in Montana to enter the world of business, a daring idea in the early 1900's and one that did not meet with approval from her parents. While at college, Anne and her sister Lizzie were charter members of the Cliolian Literacy Society, an association which fostered Anne's lifelong interest in literature, especially poetry.
Some time around 1909 Anne and her brother Louis, moved to Seattle, Washington. She was very happy there and always spoke enthusiastically of the city and her friends. In 1910 their parents William and Ellen came to visit for the summer and attended the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. That summer they learned that William needed to have a more lower altitude for his heart condition, and so he and Ellen started wintering in Long Beach,CA.
Annie would later joined the Arnold family in Long Beach, CA, living in a home that several of the family members bought on Olive Street.
Anne worked as a bookkeeper in Los Angeles during this time and would commute 6 days a week on the big red Pacific Electric Trains one hour each way. Later she would work for many years in Long Beach for the Benjamin- Irving Jewelry Store and was always very active in St Anthony's parish activities and the Business and Professional Womens Club and Soroptomist Club.
Anne always was an avid reader and and took an active interest in her nieces and nephews and loved to give books for birthdays and Christmas.
Anne would live in Long Beach the rest of her life and died just one month after her sister Alice Anderson. Alice had also lived in the Long Beach house for some time and was visiting her daughter in Paris at her death.
