OBITUARY: Vernon E. Berg
OBITUARY: SOUTHERN SHORES -- Vernon Edward Berg, 96, died Nov. 21, 2001 in Nags Head. Mr. Berg was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a former resident of Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y., and Lake Whales, Fla. Mr. Berg was a retired building supply manager and member of the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church.
He was the son of the late Edward Theodore and Ida Jeanette Wood Berg and husband of the late Gladys Portofee Berg.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Vera C. Berg of Southern Shores; a sister, Evelyn Tatem; three grandchildren, Col. Valerie Jeanette Rice, U.S. Army, Victor Lee Berg and Vincent Parker Berg; niece Barbara Rock and nephew Roger Tatem. Mr. Berg was predeceased by a son, Vernon Edward Berg II and grandson Vernon ``Copy'' Berg III.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the Outer Banks Presbyterian Church by the Rev. L. Spottswood Graves. Interment will be held in Greenwood Cemetery, Hampstead, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Duke Medical Eye Research, P.O. Box 3011, Durham, NC 27710. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge.
