His mother, Margaret Jack, received a Mother's pension. She was 47 years old and a resident of Hancock County, Indiana. She was the widow of John R. Jack. She remarried in 1878 to Samuel Soword(?) in Henry County. She died at her home in Cleveland, Indiana, 30 June 1895.
