CONRAD BADER

Conrad Bader was born in Germany on November 11th, 1833, and died at Russell, Iowa, March 17th, 1915, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 6 days.

He left his native land and came to America when 18 years of age. The first two years he spent in Cleveland, Ohio, where he learned the trade of Blacksmithing. He moved to Iowa City, Iowa, and followed his trade until he enlisted in the Civil War as a member of Co. B 22nd Iowa Volunteers, serving almost three years.

On November 27th, 1865, he was married to Sarah A. Hoy at Iowa City. In 1881 they came to Russell and resided on a farm near there until 1891 when they moved to town. His wife died October 17th, 1894. They reared two nieces, Miss Ella Alley and Mrs. E. C. Hill. He has made his home with the latter since November 1908. He was baptized into the Lutheran church in his youth.

He was a kind friend and neighbor and of a cheerful disposition, never complaining during his long illness, saying life was too short to complain. He often said he was ready when the Lord called him.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church Saturday morning by Rev. M. E. Goodrich. Interment was made in the Russell cemetery.
