Dr. Cunningham was an osteopathic physician and surgeon in Villa Grove from 1946 to 1947 and in Tuscola from 1947 to 1997 and was president of Douglas County Tuberculosis Board and Public Health Board. He was attending staff physician at Cole, Burnham and Mercy hospitals. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award and Lifetime Achievement Award from Kirsville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Fellow Award of American College of General Practitioners and Illinois State Medical Society 50-Year Club. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cunningham Endowment Fund at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Development Office, 800 W. Jefferson, Kirksville, MO 63051. This fund was established upon the death of his father, Dr. C. J. Cunningham, who practiced for 68 years in Villa Grove. The funds are distributed through the endowment to students who will eventually practice osteopathic medicine in a small town or rural setting.

A personal note: Through Jack's sons Bill and Mike, I got to know and enjoy the Cunningham family. Jack and Betty were always gracious and friendly to me.
Bill and I were in the same class of 1966 at Tuscola High. It was a fun experience to observe the interaction of the family members with one another: children to parents, siblings to siblings. It was a rich dynamic that was both instructive and hilarious. I'll cherish the memories those shared times afforded me. [Dr. Jack even performed sugery on my shin bone to remove a tumorous growth in 1971.] HGR
