Well Known Farmer Was Born in Ireland 76 Years Ago
His Son In Air Service
Was Prominent Member of St. Peter's Parish For Many Years
Michael Kennedy, aged 76 years, an honored citizen of this city died this morning at his home at Bell run after an illness of several years duration of complications of diseases. Mr. Kennedy came to this city from Mannington district where he was engaged in farming in the year 1896 and purchased the farm on which he resided at the time of his death.
He was a son of the late David and Mary Kennedy and was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and came to this country with his parents when but seven years of age. When a young man he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Erwin who survives him with nine children all residents of this county.
James Kennedy a son of the deceased is a member of the U. S. aviation corps. The other surviving children are Cecelia, D. P. Kennedy, E. P. Kennedy, Mrs. D. T. Purcell, S. J., W. M., formerly Marion county superintendent of schools, Margaret and Miss Rose. A sister Miss Mary Kennedy resides with the Kennedy family at the suburbs of this city. Two other sisters, Mrs. Ella Gaughan and Mrs. Sarah Downs, of Mannington survive, as does also a brother John Kennedy of Boothsville.
The deceased had been a member of the Catholic church practically his entire life.
Mr. Kennedy was a man who possessed keen business foresight and was a prosperous farmer. He was quiet and unassuming in his manners and in his home was a devoted husband and father. He was highly respected throughtout the county and his legion of friends will regret to learn of his death. The funeral is announced to take place Wednesday morning at nine o'clock from St. Peter's Catholic church and interment will be made in Holy Cross cemetery by Undertaker R. C. Jones.
