Elizabeth was the daughter of Lawrence Bradley and Emily Dustin Swan. She married Lemuel M. Spaun in Athens County, Ohio: 7 Sept 1869. Most of their 40 year marriage was spent as residents of West Virginia. Together they had 5 children:

Rena Luella, Minnie May (m. Wilber W. Peck in 1890), Edward Lorin, Bertha Emma (m. Herbert E. Burns in 1897), and Lemuel Bradley.


Mason County cemetery book vol. 5 under Brown's cemetery has this:

P. 23 Spaun, Elizabeth 2 Dec 1846-28 Jan 1926 daughter of Bradley Swan (K of P section). Near Elizabeth's stone there is a civil war monument to Spaun, Sgt. Lemuel. And Edward (Eddie) Lorin Spaun d. 24 June 1878 aged 4yrs 9 mos, 15 days son of LE and E Spaun.

Last Will and Testament

I, Elizabeth Spaun, otherwise know as Lizzie E Spaun, widow of the late Lemuel M Spaun residing in the town of Hartford, County of Mason, State of West Virginia, being of sound mind, do herby announce publish and decree this as my Last Will and Testament..


-To my four children, namely Rena Luella Higginbotham residing in Enterprise, West Virginia; Winnie May Peck residing in Munhall, Pennsylvania; Bertha Emma Burns, residing in Homestead, Pennsylvania and Lemuel Bradley Spaun, residing in Winter Haven, Florida, I devise and bequeath all my estate, real and personnel, as herein after set forth..


-To my eldest daughter, Rena, I bequeath one quarter of all my estate; and as a reward for her faithful services and kindness in taking care of me during my last illness, she shall receive an additional $400 of the estate. She shall also be given the opportunity of purchasing within a reasonable length of time at a reasonable market price the home property on Front Street in said town of Hartford, county of Mason, state of West Virginia, and be permitted to occupy the said property without rent or interest until such time as the estate is settled. I also bequeath to her all household effects, poultry, fee an other personal effects such items as i have otherwise promised to other, or which already belongs to others but have been left in the house for my uses, a list, or partial list of which is appended hereto.


-After the forgoing provisions are made, the residual of my estate will be divided equally among my daughters and Son ( all previously named)..


-I do herby appoint my son, Lemuel Bradley Spaun, my Executor without bond with full power to sell, deed, mortgage, lease or in any other manner dispose of my estate, or any part thereof, in caring out the provisions of this my Last Will and Testament.
