Carl Dennis Barnwell, 80, of 302 Wren Road, widower of Ted Nichols Barnwell, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Ruben "Rube" and Lonie Baynard Barnwell. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from the SC Highway Department and a member of the Pelzer First Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Denise Elwell of Greer; stepson, George Jackson of Bishopville; a very close and dear friend, Thelma Wilson of Piedmont; two sisters, Bertie Barnwell Gamel of Pelzer, Catherine Austin of Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Kellie Ann Elwell; and step-grandson, Ted Jackson.

He was predeceased by brothers, Ray Barnwell and Leon Barnwell and a grandson, Ronnie Elwell Jr.

Services will be 12:30 today at Gray Mortuary Chapel with Chaplain Cal Vick officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel at 2 p.m.

The family is at the home and will receive friends 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Gray Mortuary prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice, PO Box 9312, Greenville, SC 29604.

Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, is serving the Barnwell family.
