Jean Barngrover, 75, Lowell, Kan., passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, in the Quaker Hill Manor, Lowell. Jean Barngrover was born Aug. 10, 1933, in Hockerville, Okla., the daughter of Lonnie Hayes and Retha Robinson Hayes. She was raised in Baxter Springs, Kan., lived 17 years in the State of Wash., and then, in 1991, she moved to Carthage, Mo., until April, 2009, when she moved to Lowell, Kan.She married James Thomas in 1952, in California and later married Leslie Barngrover in 1970, in Las Vegas, Nev. She attended the First Assembly of God Church, Carthage, and for many years was a waitress, cook and homemaker in Calif., Wash., and Mo. She loved her God and she loved her family. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Jean Thomas, Webb City, Mo.; three sons, Michael James Thomas, Joplin, Mo., Timothy William Thomas and wife, Linda, Tacoma, Wash., and Daniel Allen Barngrover and wife, Meekin, Baxter Springs; two sisters, Lonene Dye, Carthage and Katy Hendricks, Sapulpa, Okla.; four grandchildren, Kenny Anderson, Jeremy Thomas, Abbey Barngrover and Keely Barngrover; one great-grandchild, Kinleah Anderson; and her ex-husband, James Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie Barngrover; and her stepfather, Roy Douse. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Deacon Chuck Wren will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
