Louanna R. Banning, 88, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday evening, January 13, 2008 [sic], at Woodcrest Retirement Community's Nursing Center in Decatur. She was born in Allen County, Indiana, on October 1, 1920, to Louis J. and Ida E. (Magley) Houk. She married Herbert N. Banning Sr. on May 29, 1941; he is deceased. Louanna was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland and the Adams County Home Extension Club and was a former member of the Adams County Historical Society. She and her husband owned Holthouseon-the-Hiway in Decatur for 20 years and also owned Banning's This 'N That Shoppe in Decatur for a number of years.
She is survived by a son, Herbert N. (Sharon) Banning Jr. of Decatur; a daughter, Sue (Mark) Young of New Bern, North Carolina; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Antioch Lutheran Church, Hoagland. Rev. Richard Vonesh will be officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery. Calling will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009, at Haggard and Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur, and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Memorials are to Antioch Lutheran Church.
