ALLEN - Evan O. Allen of 1321 South 6th Street, Cottage Grove, passed away at the Cottage Grove hospital Tuesday, October 3, 1961. He was 86 years of age. He was born at Girard, Kansas, October 26, 1874. He crossed the plains in a covered wagon at the age of 8 years, settling at Cascade Locks. In 1882 moved to Wallowa, Oregon. He was married to Minnie Boatman at Lostine, Oregon November 2, 1889. They made Wallowa their home until moving to Cottage Grove in 1957. He was a member of the Court Street Christian Church in Salem. He is survived by his wife; 1 daughter, Velma Laverty of Cottage Grove; 1 son, Darrell of New York; 6 grandchildren; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Smith Funeral Chapel, Saturday, October 7, 1961 at 2 p.m. with interment in the Shields Cemetery.
