EXPRESS MESSENGER VICTIM OF HEART TROUBLE
Body of Former Citizen to be Brought Here For Burial - Mrs. Ed Cunningham is Sister
Julius J. Pike, of Kansas City, brother of Mrs. Ed Cunningham, 803 Prospect avenue, and former resident of Carthage, died last night from heart failure while on his run from Kansas City to Denver as a railroad express man. The body is being brought to Carthage for burial. It is expected to arrive tomorrow. Funeral services probably will be held Thursday at the Cunningham home.
Mr. Pike was 54 years old. He was born in Marine, Illinois and came to Carthage with his parents when four years old. He was reared here but left this city when a young man. A wife and two sons survive. The sons are Harry Pike of Denver, Colorado and Fred Pike of Kansas City.
Mr. Pike was twice married. His first wife, who was Miss Maude (sic) Hinamon of Jasper, has been dead some years. The second wife, who survives, was Miss Annalee Mashburn of Kansas City. They were married eight years ago.
Mr. Pike was a local employee of the express company for many years and was also a member of the Light Guard Band in the late eighties and early nineties. He was the son of Ed Pike, a well known private detective and peace officer.
The wife and the son Fred and Mrs. Pike's brother, John Mashburn, are expected to accompany the body from Kansas City. Possibly the son from Denver also will accompany them.
