Mr. Doyle Wayne James, age 83 of Grapeland, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2009 in Palestine Regional Hospital in Palestine. Mr. James was born April 17, 1926 to John B. and Linnie James.

Mr. James was a veteran of WWII where he served in the 1st Battalion, 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment as a Sergeant Major. He received Military Honors including Overseas Service Bars; Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Star; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal; Army of Occupation (Japan) Ribbon and Victory Ribbon. He maintained communications with fellow veterans with whom he served and maintained conduct befitting a military hero all of his adult life. Mr. James was a Christian and after moving to Grapeland in December of 2008, he continued faithful worship at First Baptist Church in Grapeland. Those who knew him loved him. He was a kind and thoughtful man who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his son Larry W. James, of Grapeland; brothers Loyd (Bear) James, of Palesti9ne, Dalton James and wife Karyn and Wade James and wife Mat, all of Burnsville, NC.; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceded in death by his daughters Dee Annis and Pamela Gay James; son Eddie Lynn James; parents John B. and Linnie James; brothers Roy B., Leonard, Tom, Dan, Bill and John R. James; sisters Maudine Dailey, Pearl Clark and Hazel Condron.

Graveside Services for Mr. Doyle Wayne James was held Thursday, Jume 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Davis Cemetery in Grapeland.
