Our beautiful son returned to his Heavenly Father on June 10, 2009 after a long battle with drug addiction. He was born January 16, 1988 in Ogden, UT to Steven and Gayle Killpack Barnes.

Derek had a love of family. He loved to hunt and go 4-wheeling. He had a great love for kids, dogs and Monday night football. He could light up a room and always had a great story to tell.

Surviving are his parents, his sweet girlfriend, Desi Elliot, brother, Dominick, sister, Larah (Eric) Kofoed, niece Brylee, grandparents, Edith, and Ralph Osborne, Billy and Lynne Barnes, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceded in death by his grandfather, Mars Killpack.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 North Fairfield Road.

He will be loved and missed forever.
