Montpelier – Joseph Vern Dunn, 82, died Thursday, June 26 in his daughter’s home in Salt Lake City.
He was born October 7, 1897 in Georgetown to William M. and Sarah Robinson Dunn. He married Ella Quayle June 14, 1922, in the Salt Lake Temple. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for four years and was postmaster at Montpelier for several years before retiring in 1970. He was active in the LDS Church serving in various ward and stake positions including stake clerk, mutual superintendent, high councilman, and regional welfare director.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Dunn, Boise, and Dr. Richard Q. Dunn, Phoenix, Ariz., one daughter, Dr. Joyce Johnson, Salt Lake City, two brothers, Frank, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Cecil, Bloomington; three sisters, Vera and Lucille, Pocatello and Izola, Bremerton, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28 in the First Ward Chapel with Bishop Errol Fife conducting.
The family prayer was given by Cecil Dunn and the invocation was by R. K. Nelson. Howard Low played the prelude and postlude and an organ solo. Bishop Val Rich gave the obituary and Lewis Munk gave remarks, Ruth Kay Andersen sang “Abide With Me” and the benediction was by Eldon Cook.
Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery with the dedication of the grave by Sidney Follick.
Pallbearers were Stephen Dunn, Randy Dunn, Michael Dunn, David Dunn, Jeffrey Johnson, and John Lauridsen.
Flowers were under the direction of the First Ward High Priests Group. Funeral services were under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
