Mr. Lyman Burton Blackmar, 74 of Cataula, GA, died Friday, November 8, 2001 at his home. Funeral services [were] held on Sunday, November 11, 2001 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Macon Road Chapel with Reverend Helen Berenthien officiating.

Mr. Blackmar was born May 4, 1927 in Columbus, son of the late Dr. Francis Burton Blackmar and Isabel Lyman Blackmar. He was a lifelong area resident and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Mr. Blackmar graduated from Iowa State University in 1949 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Blackmar retired as a drivers education teacher with the Muscogee County School District. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Elizabeth Standard Blackmar.

Survivors include his wife, Paddy Blackmar of Cataula, GA; [two sons, one daughter], two sisters, Frances Smith of Fortson, GA and Sue Smith of Cataula, GA; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
