Passed away Sunday, August 7, 2005, at Cartwright Hospice Center. Age 76 years. Elaine Helen Zacharias was born October 26, 1928, the daughter of the late Rudy
and Emily (Schury) Zacharias. She married Harold Asmus, April 30, 1949. He survives her.

Elaine graduated from Saginaw High School and later attended Delta College. She was a secretary for Standard Oil Company (Ind.) for ten years, leaving to start a family. She later returned to the work force at Saginaw Intermediate School District in the Special Education division, until she transferred to the Special Education Dept. in the Saginaw Township Community Schools. She retired in December of 1986. Mrs. Asmus was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Second and Federal Sts., serving on the Church board, teaching Sunday school, and various other functions. She became a Stephens Minister through Grace Lutheran Church. She was involved in many different volunteer activities, including Cub Scouts and Brownies. Her hobbies since retirement included Airstream traveling, winters in the south, quilting, and genealogy and enjoying living on their Christmas tree farm.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Ken and Mary Jo Asmus, Kalamazoo, MI.; Chris and De Asmus, Fairfield, Iowa; Pastor Karen and Bill Alsnauer, Worthington, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Briana Asmus, Kelly Asmus, Glenna Asmus, Aaron Asmus, Ashley Asmus, Janna Alsnauer and Braden Alsnauer. A sister, Beatrice Harbin, has predeceased her.

Mrs. Asmus' family wish to acknowledge with gratitude and thanks her special friends, Pastor Tom Snapp, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida, her many friends at Siesta Bay Resort and the Better Breathers Assoc.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at St. John Lutheran Church, Second and Federal Sts. Rev. Paulette Cummings will officiate with entombment in Roselawn Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Tuesday and then on Wednesday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
