Barbara J. (Bobbie) Showers, 80, of Afton, died, Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at her home.
She was born May 8, 1929, in Denver Colorado to Alby Leroy Sutton (Sioux City, Iowa) and Helen Jeannette Brown (Syracuse, Kansas).
Bobbie was preceded in death by her infant daughter Carol Lynn Showers, May 11, 1953, son Jimmy Edward Showers Aug 30, 1993, her mother July 9 2003, her father Sept 8 1980, grand daughter Jessica Showers Aug 16 1993, grandson Sherman Patrick Brown Oct 8 1971 and brother Richard Sutton June 12, 2007.
Bobbie is survived by her husband, James Douglas Showers of 61 years, whom she married on Dec 11, 1948; sons, Douglas Allen Showers of Penn Laird Va, Dallas (Cowboy) Alexander Showers and his wife Wendy of Afton, daughters, April Brown and husband Pete of Waynesboro, Connie Showers of Afton; sisters Gayle Carroll, Iris Sutton and Judy Reavis and husband Danny, all of Denver, Colorado, Naomi Kelly of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania; brother Phillip Sutton and wife Candice of Katy, Texas; an uncle, Glenn Sutton of Madison, Mississippi; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren
Bobbie was a life time homemaker, a stay at home mom who did upholstery work in her basement for many years. She will be remembered as a friend and "Momma" to many. Proverbs 31: Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at 2:00 P.M., in the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 618 West Main Street, with Pastor Richard Owen officiating. Interment will follow in Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
