The Daily Review, Monday, February 8, 1960:

CASTRO VALLEY - Funeral services are pending for David J. Kern, 34, 20919 Nunes Ave., who died last night of an apparent heart attach. Mr. Kern, a native of Vallejo, lived in this area seven years. He was employed by the Chevrolet Div. of General Motors. Surviving are his widow, Aileen, and two children, David and Kathi, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kern of El Cerrito, and a sister, Mrs. Joyce Bass of San Leandro. A corner's inquest was to be held in San Leandro today to determine the cause of death.

CASTRO VALLEY-Funeral services for David Kern, 34, 20919 Nunes Ave., who died suddenly Sunday, were conducted in San Leandro today. Rites at Guerrero-Seraniur Chapel, 407 Estudillo Ave., were conducted by the Rev. Jessie E. Parker, pastor of the Bancroft Baptist Church. Burial was in the family plot at Tolokay Cemetery in Napa. Mr. Kern, an employee of Chevrolet Division of General Motors, died of asphyxiation according to an autopsy performed Monday. He evidently aspirated food while vomiting, the autopsy showed. He is survived by his widow, Aileen, and two children, David and Kathi.
