Alma Dean Blain was born on Oct. 8, 1919 in rural Orrick, MO, the daughter of George T. and Keryon (Bailey) Blain. Dean passed away on Monday, March 26, 2001 at Smithview Manor, Lawson, MO after a lengthy illness. Dean was 81 years old. She had moved to Hamilton, MO in 1966 and then to Excelsior Springs, MO in 1979. Dean had worked at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, National Bellas Hess, and was a secretary at the Gallatin Sale Barn, Gallatin, MO. Dean was a member of the Friendship and Service Garden Club and a member of the Union Baptist Church, Orrick, MO with her membership later transferred to Hamilton Federated Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

On Nov. 25, 1937, Dean was married to Claude Cyrus Barger of Orrick, MO. Claude survives at the home in Excelsior Springs, MO. Dean is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James Cyrus and Lella Barger of Orrick, MO and her daughter Mary Sue Berry of Excelsior Springs, MO. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Joni Gay Loxterman of Fayetteville, AR, and one great-granddaughter, Catrina D. Meyer of Jackson ville, FL. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren Guy Alan Turner of Missouri City, MO, Richard Dean Turner of Orrick, MO and Terri June Turner of Durant, OK. She is also survived by six step-great-grandchildren, Karen Lynn Turner, Julie Kay Turner, Charles Brian Turner, Kendall Dean Turner, Trevor Alan Turner and Lacie Kay Turner and three step-great-great-grandchildren, Trey Stapleton, Hannah Stapleton and Carlie Turner. Dean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Edward Blain and one grandson, Chris Edward Berry.

It was the family's desire that funeral services for Dean be held on Thursday, March 29, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gowing Chapel, Orrick, MO with The Rev. Pat Colley, officiating. Musical selections given by Janice Grass, organist and Sherry Allen, soloist.
