Staff Sergeant Hanigan was a right gunner aboard U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-30-MO Superfortress #42-65327, nicknamed "Princess Eileen IV." He perished when the bomber crashed [from unknown causes] near Mount Yamane, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan while on mission to Tokyo. Seven crew were killed, and five parachuted to ground and became P.O.W.s. With the 444th Bomb Group, 678th Bomb Squadron.
